Just for a little while, but she had a good time. The electric company, because of all the downed power lines in the area from the blizzard, won't be out to run the power out there for another 3 weeks or so (oh joy), so Rich cobbled the wiring together so that we could at least have a couple of lights in the new barn. We don't have the capacity in the old fusebox to run the trough de-icer, but we have light. So last night, because Bandit had been shut in all day (we had another bad spell of weather) in the old barn, we put her and Cricket in the new barn with some hay and water, and the nice light on of course, while we cleaned up the mess in their stall in the old barn.
I thought I was going to have trouble getting her in the new barn, but she marched straight in and started looking around and getting a feel for the place. Cricket was bouncing off the walls (she's getting cabin fever I think!). Then Bandit made a big SPLAAAAATTTT, and all was well.
We put Cricket back in the old barn for the night and turned Bandit out in the pasture (the wind and snow had stopped by then) so I could milk this morning. After I did, I put them in the outside pen, then when I turned Bandit out for the day, she walked straight to the new barn door, which is closed, and stood there. And stood there. She knew there was food in there, and she was obviously wanting me to open the door and let her in. I promised her she could have her dinner in there again tonight, and left her standing there staring at the door.
At least I know I won't have too much trouble getting her used to the new digs. She seems to like it already. Rich is going to try and get the fence back up today where we had to take it down to run the water line in there, so maybe (keep your fingers crossed) we can start using the new barn full time starting tonight or tomorrow. I'll still have to break ice and carry water, but hey, there's water right there in the barn now, so it won't be that hard. ;D
