I have a registered Jersey cow, four years old that I bought open and dry. She was a little on the thin side and a little loco, too! :-) Actually, when I went to look at her, she was very nice standing with a halter and allowing us to touch her and her udder. When I got her home, she was agressive toward my smaller cows but not agressive toward DH or myself. She had horns and we had them cut back. This helped some but not completely. I even put her for up sale because she was just being a pain to the smaller girls. I had a deposit on her but the deal fell through due to personal circumstances on the part of the buyer and inside, I was relieved, because I was growing attached to her and she was learning what was acceptable and what was not. I found that she is highly intelligent, more so than the other cows that I own and she is very intrigued with her humans. She reminds me so much of some of the children I use to work with at school who had emotional and behavioral problems and would act out because they wanted/needed attention. She still has the "boss cow" attitude but is not agressive toward the smaller cows anymore and I have learned to even just speak or name or give her a scratch on the head and she will be patient and good for me and not pick on the other's so badly. I saw her the other day trying to bully one of the smaller cows and I opened my kitchen door, spoke her name in a stern voice and she literally stopped and looked at me. I told her to quit and she walked away calmly. This cow can open any gate or latch on a door, so we have the doors double latched ont he feed room. I have two standing offers to buy her for $2200 anytime I get ready to sell her, but to be honest with you, I don't think I could sell her now, as she has won a place in my heart.
She came from Waverly farms in Clearbrook, VA and I know that she was bottle raised by a family with young children before she was sold to the lady I bought her from.
I am interested in knowing more about her dam, sire and pedigree if anyone can give me any information. I would be curious about any strengths and weaknesses you see in her as well (either through observations of her photo or through her pedigree.)
