Hi,
I had asked Joann Grohman to do a presentation at our grange months ago and it was set for last evening. She did a really good job. I was told that everyone really enjoyed her discussion.
Joann, Mitra and Mitra's daughters Roshan and Shireen all had supper with us before her presentation. Mitra's girls are so well mannered you don't even hardly notice them.
Mitra, Joann and I all brought some milk for taste testing after her presentation. It was fun tasting Helen's milk and Jasmine's milk. I have to say I loved the pure creaminess of Jasmine's milk. It was incredible. If I lived near Joann and didn't have my own cow, I would drink nothing but Jasmine's milk. Mitra and I poured the milk for people and would tell everyone who the cow was they were drinking from. It was so much like a wine tasting it cracked me up.
I had asked Joann to talk about the goodness of whole milk because I told her so many of our members are afraid of fat and cholesterol and all the things their doctors make them afraid of. I think she assuaged some of their fears about eating real food with real fat in it. She also got to tell them that the cow diseases from years ago are no longer an issue. I know that we have a few members that still feared drinking raw milk because of those disease from the past.
One of our younger members bought Joann's copy of Keeping a Family Cow. Most of our members are very old so they won't be getting a cow but maybe they will buy the milk from the local people that sell it. Laura (lj) was also there and we let people know that she will be selling milk again very soon as her cow just calved the other day.
Joann was fun to listen to. She made people laugh and I think she also impressed them when she got into the technical information about milk components, and calories and health issues. She had Mitra's girls stand up to show everyone what children raised on fresh milk look like. That was a big hit with everyone. It was good to hear Joann tell them she had been eating as much butter, milk, cheese and eggs as she possibly could and had been doing it for years.
Carole introduced Joann initially and told everyone about this board and how we all help each other with our cow issues and how Joann helped start it all. Joann downplays her part in it but I could tell she is pleased that so many people enjoy keeping a cow. We even had people ask us for the web site so they could check it out. I think it was a good evening and I feel Joann helped perform a good service for our grange members. Maybe they will go out and spread the word to their friends and relatives. I feel at least they have some helpful current information and can maybe make some better choices for their diets.
