Well, many of you may remember my horse, Moe, that I bought last fall. He had the eye cancer thing. Well, another thing he had that came out later, as he got fed well and fat, was a propensity to go over backwards I decided that I didn't need that and sold him for a pittance.
Yesterday we found another horse, a little mare named Star. She's either 12 or 14, he didn't know for sure. She neck reins very well, she moves out nicely and picks up with just a "cluck." I felt very comfortable with her. His 10 yo grandson was riding her when I got there. He said they just put the saddle on day before that when someone else looked at her and they hadn't ridden her for several months before that. I even let my 8 yo ride her a bit. She, against my wishes, mustered her into a trot. Everything went well.
We paid for her and she walked right in the trailer. As soon as we got on the four lane highway I realized she had turned around in my little two horse trailer. Not a good thing. I managed to get off on an exit ramp and without opening any of the trailer doors she turned around for me and I tied her. (I don't think they guy had even tied her : Lesson learned there!
So, I'm cautiously optimist that she'll work out for us. I have a kid broke mare already and want to be able to do light riding with my girls.
Now, here's the kicker - I would have had to search far and wide to find a mare that looks any closer to a twin to my current one. Check it out. Star is the new horse on the left and Candy is the mare I've had for years!
Here's another one of her a little closer.
So now, once I get my saddle back from being repaired from the previous incident (he broke my stirrup in half) we can test out the new girl.
