Hello Everyone!
I know it has been a while since I wrote, but I have been really busy (although I do read posts when I have time). Anyway, I have a few questions about soy, because I am a reporter for my high school’s newspaper, and I am writing an article on the dangers of soy for the next issue. It is amazing how many kids eat soy because they think it is “healthy” for them. I want to educate them!
Here are the questions (modified a bit). If you know about soy, I’d be happy if you could answer whichever questions you want to/can.
----------------
What are the dangers of soy?
The big soy companies keep telling us that Asian cultures have based their diets on soy for the past several thousand years. How did Asian cultures originally prepare and consume soy?
How should soy be consumed?
How does modern processing render soy harmful?
----------------
Here are the questions I was trying to ask some of the soybean associations and larger corporations. Of course, none of them answer my calls, so if you are pro-soy, maybe you could answer some of these:
What are the benefits of soy in peoples' diets?
What studies prove that soy is beneficial (such as the studies that were used to support the FDA’s claim that "Diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol that include 25 grams of soy protein a day may reduce the risk of heart disease.")?
Who funded/sponsored these studies?
How can something that just a few years ago was a little-known crop suddenly become a country-wide craze? Doesn’t it seem odd that everyone is eating soy now and the food manufacturers are putting soy in some form or another in every food possible?
----------------
I appreciate any answers you can give me!
Thanks!
Kelsey
