Hi there
Ok, I'm not trying to sound dumb, but can someone explain differences, pros and cons, and preferences between homeopathic remedies and herbal remedies??
I was at my midwife's appt yesterday, and we were discussing remedies for certain things (the scar where I tore having Jesse has suddenly started giving me a lot of trouble, where it never did before-must be from the pressure from the baby)-only 7 weeks away from my due date!! (Which means we are only 7 weeks away from a New Year, guys!!)
She asked if I ever used any homeopathic remedies. I told her I was very interested in herbs, not too knowledgeable, but very interested. She said, no homeopathy is different, but didn't really elaborate. She said homeopathy is always safe during pregnancy, where some herbs aren't (which I know, but you need to know your herbs then, right!?). She recommended homeopathic arnica, I think 250 mg dose, in sugar pill form, to help with the pain from my scar. She also says that she has someone make up 4 different remedies she offers to her "girls"-one for putting in a peri bottle, one for breast infections, the arnica for pain, and one for labour. I've never really been too crazy about those different remedies sold in health food stores in sugar pill form-but maybe that's just me!! As an adolescent, I bought some for acne-never really did the trick!!
I already have comfrey for sitz baths for after the baby is born, and drink raspberry leaf tea (planning on switching to nettle for the last month for extra vitamin k). This is from knowledge gained from "Wise Woman Herbal for the Childbearing Year" by Susun S. Weed. Also, at least with Jesse, I had a lot of trouble with mastitis myself, and am now prepared a little better with remedies for that, both from experience with my own baby, and from all the trouble I had with Dolly! But I would appreciate all thoughts and recommendations there too!
I would appreciate any and all info and recommendations from you wise people out there!
Hugs!
(Also, a Post Script-I have only managed to gain 12.5 lbs with this pregnancy. The midwife promised not to bug me about my weight, but yesterday, she was a little troubled, and mentioned that as small as I am, I should really try to put on more. This was something my Dr and Ob really got on my case about with Jesse, although by the end I had gained 40 lbs, and lost all but a half pound before I got pregnant with this little one. It's not that I'm not eating or worrying about "getting fat" as that has NEVER crossed my mind ever in my life!! I just can't seem to gain weight, even eating 3 healthy meals/ day plus two snacks with my son. I blame it on chasing a toddler all day, plus farm work!).
