It was suggested that I go into the forum and see if anybody can help me.My Emily is a 4 year old heifer. It's been about 5 months now that she went down and we're not sure what happened originally because I was just coming out of the hospital after almost 2 months. All I know is that Emily has been fighting to live.First of all let me tell you that there are no vets that will help us out here, not then not now.I needed to get her banamine right away and it took over a month to literally scream to get someone out here.So she came because I couldn't get the banamine unless a vet gave it to her and of course I couldn't get a vet to come out here.So the only help I got was told to lift her everyday to keep her circulation going.I bought a munks sling which did not fit her properly. It cut her thighs terribly.I had just come out from a stroke so the people that were lifting her didn't pay attention and when I was able to bend doen and look that was the end of the back piece. I couldn't use anything between her legs/too deep and couldn't be stitched. To make a long story short Emily and I worked really hard to get them healed.Plus we continued to lift her by using a 4inch strap by 12 and 15 feet.So everything was healing, then we saw she had an infection in her teats/was able to get her 2 injectors for mastitis and got that healed up.Emily was trying to use her legs, she was flexing her muscles and trying. She was excited to stand up everyday. She had moved a bit before as well and was doing really well until this guy with the hiab that i hired kept doing a no show and then quitting without telling me.So here Emily does her moves and her reward by this jerk was not being able to be lifted up for awhile. So this lady who was helping me /we rolled her from side to side.Eventually we were able to get some steel beams put under the shelter and put a hoist up.So we were lifting Emily everyday again. She's eating well/drinking well/and going to the bathroom well. The terrible thing now is after all her hard work she got some kind of cut at the back of her rear and thigh area. It's not getting smaller. We're not able to lift Emily now because this wound is stretching wider. The pressure of the straps lifting her would rip her.She doesn't understand why I'm not lifting her.It seems to be a large deep gaping hole, almost hollow behind her hyde. It's not looking good at all for My Emily now.We couldn't get a vet then and we can't get a vet now.I love her so much I don't want her to end up suffering.I don't know if I can even help her now.She dpends on me to help her and get her better. What can I do? The farmers around here including some vets who haven't even seen her say just shoot her.How but I shoot them and see how they would like it....If she can't be saved then I have been trying to get someone down here to at least do the humane thing and euthanize her while I hold her so she's not by herself. She's a good girl and she trying not to give up, but whatever that cut/gaping wound whatever it is must be hurting. I gave her a bit of bute on some apple slices. If anyone can help or knows what it could be please help.Emily needs help if not my husband will have to take matters in to his own hands.Emily is part of my family. She's gentle and kind and should have many more years to live. Please help!
