LOL...well, I've had a couple of requests for "my recipe" for treating trauma, pain, inflammation and fear...in people or in animals. It's not much of a recipe, per se. I have a wonderful homeopathic kit ("The Red Box", as my kids call it) which goes with us everywhere, and which contains 100 homeopathic remedies (it's when I forget it that we really need it!). It came from Washington Homeopathic Pharmacy (www.homeopathyworks.com/jshop/), and I use it for both people and animals. I also have some wonderful reference books on homeopathy for each critter! lol. Basically, the same remedies that would work on you will work on an animal in a similar situation, and vice versa. I also use another site for figuring out which remedies best apply...abchomeopathy.com/.
You can tell which remedies we use the most, because they are the ones I need to order refills on most often! Be aware that most remedies are noted primarily for certain things, but those same remedies can also help with seemingly unrelated symptoms. The ones we tend to use the most are...ARNICA (don't raise kids without this stuff! It's the premier remedy for bumps, bruises, aches and pains...and trauma), ACONITE (great for fear, anguish, and anxiety...also for inflammation and flu...making it a wonderful remedy to give to animals being shipped), and HYPERICUM (is wonderful as a nerve pain reliever, esp. to the extremities or after surgery, with one proviso...it seems to work best if the person/animal isn't in terrible pain when it's first administered. My DH was still in shock when I gave it to him after breaking 4 metatarsals...and it controlled the pain amazingly. After surgery, the pain was wild, so meds brought it down, then Hypericum seemed able to control it from then on.)
So...I take 3 little "bb's" or tablets of each remedy and put them into the patient's mouth for acute problems, and repeat every 15 minutes, or as needed. I also take the same number of tablets and add them to a bottle of water and shake (succuss) it about 10 times, to dissolve it into the water...and also try to shake it 10 times after the bottle has sat a while. Have the patient either sip on that bottle all day long, or, if it's an animal, you can spray the solution into their mucuous membranes, and add some to their water tank. I couldn't believe how, when I added Aconite to the water tank, both Katie and Annabelle calmed down substantially, and our most skittish little heifer began letting me get close enough to pet her! In fact, Annie is fast becoming a "lap cow wannabe"...and I'm sporting the poison ivy she's rubbed on me to prove it (for which I'm taking Rhus Tox...which has kept the rash from erupting, so far, and is controlling the itch)!
You can either buy your remedies from one of the above listed places, or from a Natural/Health Foods oriented grocery store. I can get blue tubes of Homeopathic stuff made by either Boiron or Hylands from H.E.B., Whole Foods and Fiesta. In fact, Hylands tends to be carried in many regular Pharmacies...but usually you'll only find stuff like "C-Plus Cold" and "Teething Tablets", which both ROCK, just fyi. I would also recommend you look into buying a tube of Arnica gel (bumps, bruises, aches), one of Calendula gel (skin trauma, burns, etc.), and some Bach's Rescue Remedy, in both dropper and cream form (www.bachflower.com/Rescue_Remedy.htm), also available in most pharmacies.
I KNOW how "woowoo" all of this stuff can sound. I was one of the avoiders, for a very long time, too. However, circumstances change and people can learn. Bach's works to immediately calm distress and pain. I've seen it work on my kids when they got hurt and were screaming the house down...and AS SOON as the cream touches them, even if not at the injury site, they IMMEDIATELY calm down. It's shocking. Well, two weeks ago, I was down at the cow barn, stupidly in sandals. Long story shortened, something caught my big toenail and popped it up...right off the nail bed! OMG that hurt! I have a high pain tolerance, and I was moaning and tears were flowing, it hurt so bad. My DD ran into the feed room and got the emergency tube of Bach's Rescue Remedy, and put a dab on my toe, away from the nail. It was incredible. The pain immediately eased! I still knew I was injured, but it was completely bearable! I was then able to hobble up to the house, doctor my poor toe, and then go on and finish my work. Go figure. As the father in "My Big, Fat Greek Wedding" says about Windex..."This stuff WORKS!" lol.
Hey...there are other people on this forum that use Homeopathy. Why don't you post what you've found works in various situations?! That could be a real help to people just starting out with "alternatives".
