Hi folks!
It's been so long since I've posted that I thought a re-intro might be in order...
My name's Tom Harbold, and I'm a family cow "wannabe." (chorus: "Hi, Tom!")
At this writing, I am just back from the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture www.pasafarming.org annual conference, which I attended with my "boss" at Spoutwood Farm www.spoutwood.com and our two newest apprentices in the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture project, that is, not Confederate States of America!). Needless to say, sustainable, small-scale, local agriculture is a passion of mine...
We have a 100-member CSA supplying a wide variety of vegetables to our shareholders; last year we added a bread-share, and this year we are adding a meat/value-added share, cheese share, dairy (except cheese) share, and egg share, in cooperation with other local farms. We are also starting a School of Sustainable Living, and revamping our apprentice/interm program, both of which are my projects, and building a new observatory, which I also got put in charge of! So I'm just a tiny bit busy, of late...
For those who've known me for a while on here, I'm still in Maryland, after two moves: to an apartment in Manchester in July, and to my current place, a condo in Hampstead, which I actually own: my first-ever place of my own! No, it's not the small farm with a cow and a couple dozen chickens in the back that I had dreamed of (and still do), but for now it's a good place for me. And I'm trying to convince Rob to get a dairy cow and some chickens for Spoutwood...
I've missed folks here on the board, and I hope to check in (and post) more frequently. But I did want to check in and let folks know I'm still around, and still okay! Take care, all -- many blessings!
Tom
