How do you guys go about raising up a livestock guardian dog to stay outdoors all the time? I just saw Kangal dogs for sale in my area and I have to say I am intrigued. I would love to have a guardian dog for predation but also just to be out in the yard with my kids. We put up a gate and I still get people who will go around it. Typically it is walmart deliveries and somehow through fedex they sub out the delivering to random people. They come in unmarked, regular vehicles without any kind of uniform and they will go over my gate to deliver to the front door despite having signs and a drop box indicating where to leave packages (and including it on the delivery instructions when I order). In addition to that they have to take a picture of where the package is delivered. So in the end I have random people walking on my property and taking pictures and I HATE it. I feel like having a 120lb dog would be a great deterrent to coming around my gate. All that being said, I don't want another house dog and I'm in my 3rd trimester. I've house broke a dog while pregnant before and swore I never would again. If I wanted to make this dog an outdoor dog (which I would) what does that entail to train it to stay on the property and have manners with the kids and animals? Is a designated dog pen a must or would you let them roam freely in a fenced yard? I know many people have another LGD that takes puppies under their wing but I don't have that. Our house dog is a spazz (border collie/lab). Does anyone have issues having one dog that isn't allowed to come in while another is? If I get a male (which would be my preference) I assume that I would have to fix it or it would roam? Or are they better protectors left intact? No one close by has a female dog, but those are famous last words I am sure.
Also does anyone know anything about this Kangal breed? Looks like they are at least similar if not the same as an Anatolian? Do they bark as much as a Great Pyrenees typically? We had one of those growing up and with the proximity to neighbors here I have avoided getting one of those.
