Well I guess it's time to make it official. As my sister (JanenefromTexas) says, I've been a "Lurker" here for some time now and a member for just a couple of weeks. Since joining I have increased my ''computer savey'' 10 fold figuring out how to upload, download, copy, paste and insert ect.. to do my avatar and post pictures.
About me, I've been a transplant to Texas (from Nebraska) since '01. After living in and around Lincoln since I got out of the military in '92 I just wanted to get back in the country. I've been renting 100 acres just out side of town for about 4 years now and working on the other end of town at the local ford dealer as their diesel mechanic.
I've been married over twenty years to a ''city girl'' who loves any kind of animal. Three kids, two teens, a boy and a girl still at home (Arrrg!! counting down the years to ''semi-retirement'') and one married with my one year old grandson.
As far as animals go we have a little herd of cows, just enough to justify a bull. (could have run 200 head this year with all the rain, tiered of shredding at these gas prices) I've posted pictures of the boys so far and will get around to the girls, of which several were nursed by sisters jersey ''Dolly'' and then brought up here after they got nice and big on real milk. Three ''hay burners'' (horses) that are going to go ''since the newness has worn off and no one rides anymore.
We also have five Boer and Boer/Nubian nannies and seven two month old kids. Four bronze turkeys, forty or so chickens, one goose, three guineas, five ducks, three house cats two tame (free roaming outside) squirrels and four rottweilers (two are two moth old puppies but the wife only wants to keep one, hint hint). We all miss our pet skunk (de-scented) that disappeared last year when we started letting him go outside when it was hot. (we don't use the a/c)
Well, as you can tell rambling on and on is genetic , I'll have plenty of other chances to ''talk to you all'' later.
David
P.S. I would like to add that when I remembered that sis had loaned me one of her books (KFC) and actually looked at it is when I started visiting this site. As I told her, out of all the information I've seen re-learning about cows (in general, let alone milking) this was the most informative and detailed yet.
Thanks Joann!
