So about 10 days ago, my daughter started having issues with the twin hose airlines on our de laval style milker not wanting to stay on the claw top. She cut the hose back thinking that maybe it was just stretched but it still had to be held on or it would pop off at times, causing the cow to kick at the machine because of pressure changes. About 2 days later she tells me one of the cows is kicking at her udder now and then. Of course I was gone to visit my mom and dad which seems to be the jinxing thing in our household...
Then they tell me she has one quarter that looks like it's gotten stung ( a red bump)in is quite a bit larger than the others and very hot and sensitive. They got the CMT and said it was just very mild gelling if they looked hard enough but then they tested the other cows and everyone had a slightly high quarter which they didn't have on last lab test.
She didn't tell me that they were having to replace the milk machine on each cow one to two times a milking because the airlines would just pop off, or the shut off on the bottom of the machine would all the sudden pop open.
Fast forward to Wednesday, all the cows quarters are 100% when I come home and then my kids left to visit g and g. I get machines out and go to milk first cow and the machine would not stay on for anything. It would milk her for a short period of time and then the air hose would just explode backwards with a pop. So I held it on aggressively by hand and then the milk line popped off of the claw!! After a very unhappy cow and me trying to get the milk machine back on 5 to 6 times, I simply hand milked a very miserable cow ( she's one of new cows who has strong opinions). I got out our other machine and changed the milk lines and Air lines, put it on the second cow and it us as though after a few pulses there is a pop of air that goes backwards and shoots a line off! So I hand milk the second cow which was not fun as I'm not supposed to be squatting or sitting low with my bad knee.
I spent the next hour trying to problem solve and went and got out a really old twin airline / vacuum line and put it on and that seems to make everything a little bit better. It was too late for me to call parts depot.
Next day The grouchy cow was already prepared for unhappiness and decided 3/4 of the way simply to hook the hose with her toe and pull it off. Bah!! Then I realized that the shut off on the bottom had popped open again even though I had carefully made sure it was closed and twisted, and so she had pulled it off because of the pressure difference. I finished her with the machine and then went over to the other cow and while the airlines didn't pop off, that stupid shut off on the bottom just randomly twists and closes which causes the cows to dance because it's uncomfortable.
Do you guys have any idea why these stupid things are happening? My husband thinks it's a pulsator issue but the pulsator seems to be doing just fine. I can plug them all and it holds vacuum where it's supposed to about 11 and a half. I put my thumbs and fingers in the inflations and it feels like normal pulsation. I watched the gauge and I never see any massive drop or raise at any time and I have a 1.5 horsepower double cow milker from parts Depot.
I'm calling them this afternoon but thought I'd ask you all. I'm fairly certain the high somatic cell count in each of the cows for that one week was simply due to milking issues.
