I was born to farmers. Our family at the time I was born raised a huge garden, had pigs, chickens, beef cattle, milk cows (at that time it was milking short horn) horses, grew wheat to feed their own animals. At the ranch we had three houses & a tailer. My Grandpa owned the farm. The Lower ranch was 1200 acreas of pasture land with wheat land. The other ranch was On top they called it. It was 780 acres. It was land that was passed down. My Grandpa died on the operating table in Texas during heart surgery. My Dad & Uncle were going to run the family farm after my Grandpa died. My Dad owned 75 percent of the farm shares, my Uncle 25 percent. When my Grandpa died my Gramma said she wanted my Uncle to run the farm. My Dad had to sell his shares to his brother & it was a hard time. We left the farm & I was 5 years old & I remember crying all the way to our new home. I grew up always wishing we could be on a farm. We spent every summer at the farm & vacations. I hated the taste of store milk from being spoiled. I missed the gloppy cream. Missed the chickens & butchering time. I heard all the stories of my families life. My Gramma moved away but she had a few acres & kept a cow & chickens till she was near 80 years old. She was a very hard worker & a GREAT role model! She loved life & Believed in God & witnessed to people. She was concerned about their soul. My Gramma searched for a Man she told me...only she was 16 when her & her man (my Grandpa) married. I searched for a man too, I was married at 16 also. I looked for a kind man one what had the same dreams as me. A farmers dream!
I feel blessed. I have our dream. My Uncle gave my husband & I a piece of our familys farm. We payed him for this land. He, my Uncle gave the money to his Mom for a debt that he owed her...even though she had forgave him & the other of her children money that they had owed her. We then invited my parents to put a small home next to us. I thought this is the life that we would have had if we wouldn't have had to leave the farm 30 years before. I am the 5th generation on this farm. I look out our kitchen window & see the first home my Gramma & Grandpa lived in. We have such richness in our family. We are not weathly farmers...just ones that get by & are content with what we have.
I love my family. I love the life they have & that I have. I am so thankful for our home, that my husband & kids are building. We have been building our home for 5 years. We lived in a pull trailer & then my husband build a cabin about 3 years before that. We started developing this piece of raw land around 8 years ago. It is a hard life. I heard the stories of my Gramma's Dad that had to take a wagon & a team of horses & went 30 miles to get logs to build their home. I am sure they had it harder. My husband said he never gives up. His Dad gave up before they could have something nice. We work hard for what we have. I feel God Blessed us & Blesses us.
Love,
Dianne
