Well, Rich got Stinker moved last night, while I wasn't looking. I was in the cow barn with Molly, with the door shut (the wind was coming straight in and it was C-C-C-COLD! I got her fed, filled the water, bedded her stall, did what I could to level the large lumps of wet floor, and then I grabbed the spanking stick (in case Stinker needed encouragement) and went out the door to get her moved over. But no Stinker! I looked all around, and finally, I went back around to the other side, and there she was, eating hay with Horus and Joe. Well, Joe wasn't eating. He was so happy to have his girlfriend back, he had reared up and was climbing all over her head, while pooping! It was one of the strangest things I've ever seen. I was REALLY happy that Rich got Stinker moved all by himself. I was already tired from forking up great blobs of partially frozen mud and rearranging them. (I think probably he just opened the gate, and when she saw the hay in the horse corral, she moved her own self, LOL!)
Anyway, Molly got shut in last night because of the wind, and now I need to seriously start working on the floor in there before it freezes solid. I need to level it out as much as I can, and then once it's frozen, I can rake a bunch of the hay chaff onto it and it should be fairly "walkable" for both Molly and us hoomans. It's supposed to stay cold today, AND we have freezing fog again this morning. I am so SICK of freezing fog. It's pretty the first time, and then it's just a pain. Everything is damp, and it feels so much colder than it actually is (it's 15 now, and in a few days, I'll be wishing it was that "warm" again, LOL!).
However. Looking at the 10 day forecast, they're calling for the temps to go back up again by the middle of next week. Apparently, this is just a passing storm and cold front, not actual "winter." Luckily, the snow should mostly miss us, but we'll still get the cold and the wind, ugh. Anyway, all the work I do on the floor might be for naught, if it thaws out again in a week. Oh, well. What else would I do with all this "spare time" I have? ROFL!
Good news is still no signs of heat from Molly last night. It could still be the next day or two, but she was pretty regular at 21 days, so I think she's pregnant. And besides, I just have a "feeling." AND, Rich called our hay guy to see if he could bring our second load of hay in about 3 weeks, and he said no problem. We're down to our last 4 large squares, and I get nervous when there's only a little hay and there's a cold spell on the way. Well, "a little hay" is actually about 2,800 pounds (the bales weigh about 700 pounds each), but I'm feeding four hay-eaters, and they eat a LOT more hay when it's cold. So having a full hay room will be nice. MOSTLY what's nice is that I can feed Molly and not have to worry about someone else eating it.
