My girl Tess has been my constant companion for almost 13 years. I could never get out of the house without her ( on occasions I tried my best). She is one of those extra special ones who become a part of your very soul. She knows what I'm thinking and understands what I say. You can see it in her face. She doesn't just look at me , she reads my thoughts. It is uncanny.
I saw her for the first time at a local shelter in Northern Mo. I went to see if they had anything suitable( puppy) that my daughter could choose from. As I walked down the rows of cages I stopped at hers and our eyes met and I knew right then she was mine and my daughter lost her chance to choose.
Tess has been having some issues for the last 6 months. Bladder infection/ or cancer is my vets best guess off of the urine sample. We treated for the possible infection but I could see she was having considerable pain in that area, but we seemed to get past that. It lead to urine leakage which is not being controlled by medication ( it was at first), I wash her constantly and get her out very often and she was getting me up multiple times to go at night. We were managing.
Lately I can't get her up to go at night. She sleeps 90% of her day. I see her losing strength in her hips and she seems wobbly in her gait, but she keeps on going. Most days she eats her food, but some days she doesn't. Last week unknown to me she followed my daughter and I on our ride. For the last 4 days she has been 3 legged and yesterday I had to carry her down the porch stairs to go potty . She was really, really hurting, but she never makes a sound. ever.
Last night I made the decision that if she wasn't better today I would take her in and end her pain. I used her last pain pill last night and this morning while she was still in her bed I tried to let her go, but I just couldn't. She got up and is better this morning walking wise and can get up and down the porch stairs. She started to follow me up the hill to do chores, but I took her back inside.
I went to the vet's office this morning and refilled her pain pills instead Her eyes are bright and she isn't ready to go yet either. I will take it one day at a time.
