Jersey bull calf about five weeks old is coughing, a lot. About a week ago he was coughing a little, had the vet out because I wa going to be gone for the day. He was clear, no temp but slight cough.
She left a shot of antibiotic for him if needed. Cough diasppeared, thankfully. Until yesterday and this sounds more "rattley" and it has gotten progressively worse today until tonight where he is coughing a lot. He is acting fine, took his bottle, is eating hay, is up and moving. Temp is 102.2, I cannot hear anything out of the ordinary in his lungs but my stethescope is not great. It may be coincidence bu,t when he started coughing last week I had given him a small amount of grain for a couple of days, put it in his mouth. I took it away for a few days. He has had some pellets free coice the last few days and both calves have been eating it. It seerms like if he had a pellet stuck it would eventually dissolve and go down. He has been eating hay right along and I suppose he could have something stuck from that. I just am very worried this is pnuemonia starting, temps have been up and down, over a thirty degree swing today. I am putting blankets on the calves at night as they are still small and they were awful thin when I got them. This little guy, Mack, has a very rough coat, I was wondering if worms could make a cough come on like this. Should I give him the shot? I cannot remember what it is, similar to nuflor's chemical name but it isn't nuflor.
Sorry if this is disjointed, I am disjointed right now.
Oh yeah, Mack poop seemed good and he peed like normal. He might be a tiny bit quieter than usual. Hard to tell.
