Something's now right with Willow. She's 7 months into her lactation. Last night I noticed she didn't have the greatest rumen fill. She usually has this giant gut all the time. And she had very little milk which is hard to tell also because the calf is on during the day, separated at night. Milk looks good, udder looks good, no signs of mastitis. Her body temp was only 100.8 last night - this morning only 100.1 which is low. She chowed her grain down this morning, she looks a hair off to me but probably wouldn't to anyone else. I put a magnet down her (which I've been meaning to do since this summer) also she got 2 boluses (the usual, yeast probiotics, etc in them)and a shot of B vitamins.
The low temperature is concerning to me tho. I don't see any out ward signs of milk fever. I do have a bottle of calcium I can run sub q but I don't see anything that would point to that. Her condition is less than I want it to be but not terrible. Currently getting 75% alfalfa/25% grass hay.
Manure is normal. I just watched her suck down a bunch of water so she's drinking normally. I'm kinda at a loss. I'm not *too worried* because she is eating and drinking and acting pretty normal but I'm wondering why she's got such a low temp. Normal is 101. 🤔
Doesn't seem like pneumonia. I'd expect an elevated temp if it was pneumonia. No nasal discharge, no ocular discharge, I saw her half cough once but that seemed like more of a large cud burp instead of a cough.
Yes I can call the vet if things start to go downhill but I can't think of anything I've missed currently. Thoughts on anything else I can check for or give? Thanks.
