The last few days my DH and I have been hopelessly looking for 5 cows that disappeared out of our 65 acre pasture. There are hills and woods that hard to walk through and visually see every square inch, and their pasture is surrounded on the right by an Angus farm with over 100 head and the left by a Holstein farm. The missing cows are our favorites, the herd matriarch a big Charolais cross, her second in command a Holstein Hereford, a very large register high priced registered Beefmaster, my dearest cow and a very tame and brave cow named Sophia half Brahma and half Jersey and her half sister a grey cow. What is really weird is there is 15 cows still in the pasture. It's possible they got hit by lightning and I have not found their bodies, stolen or possibly loose which seems like we would of found them in the neighboring herds. In the very back is a hunting club and I recently put up No Hunting signs and we found the barbed wire cut and an opening in the fence, but its in a high rugged spot with fallen trees and nothing but woods on the other side and I found no droppings on that side of the fence. My cows readily come to my calls and I consider them lap cows. Any ideas to find out what happened. I called the Sheriffs office and no one reported seeing loose cows. Who do you call? The neighbors have not seen them or anything suspicious. Would very tame cows stray long distances from their herd? Is it weird 5 are gone and the rest are there? I put out bait piles of grain and they are still where I poured them. The 15 remaining I put in a small pen, because every time I called they kept mooing back.
