I have been royally frustrated doing ai I this year as everything is coming back into heat over and over. frustrated to the point that I won't even give anybody advice on it because I feel like a failure. It isn't even me doing it this year, it is my husband who knows exactly what he's doing so any oops is either timing or improper handling of the straws.
I sent my husband a text saying we have to figure this out I'm down to 5% first conception, 30 percent second and many cows are on their 3rd.
I was really upset last week and walked a cow in heat up to a bull who is a half-brother because I wanted her bred now- I wanted calvess beginning of April and not may.
So the two cows that I thought were bred the first time we're standing last week bright red tags, a heifer that I was sure was bred came into heat 4 days late ( don't u hate it when u are sure you are safe and next day they are standing)
, And then another girl came into heat on Monday. So I ask my husband to come out an ultrasound her so that I could see if she had ovulated and if she hadn't I would check her again that night and the next morning and just figure out what was going on. Or if maybe she was ovulating from Tiny follicles 10 mm or smaller etc.
depending on what he saw I was going to AI or that morning check again to see if she'd ovulated that night and if not I would AI her again late that night and check her the next morning to see if she ovulated yet.
He puts his ultrasound probe in and says she's bred but has a huge follicle.
I shake my head and let her go - she stands like a rock for four more hours.
So I have DH preg check the two I'd seen standing last week and they are bred also 40-plus days.
what in the world is going on that my bred cows are all doing this? I can't understand if one of them was but all of them??
We're on a new property, grazing cover crops of annual grasses and Sudan grass/ sorghum. I can't find any information online that would suggest grazing these crops results in anything like this.
