My future dairy cow is the only one who refuses to respect my personal space.
She's pushy, not usually with her head, she'll walk next to me and put her side or hips into me. She's done this from day one.
Two days ago, i was having trouble keeping Val and piper on their side and getting Sydney on her side with Charlotte. After baby left the order system fell apart.
I put a handful of Charlotte's feed or to occupy her since she was on me like a puppy.
Finally got Syd in, went to dish Val and pipers feed through the fence. (In hind sight i should've fed the girls in front of me first) Charlotte pushed into me trying to reach their feed through the cattle panel.
This squashed me against the fence. I wasn't hurt or stepped on but this is a big issue i have with her so i carry my pvc pipe stick.
She wouldn't move with a push and tap on her hips, so i whacked her shoulder.
It worked, but i had one of those horrible panic moments because she'd turned her head just in time to get her face. She squinted and her eye watered for a bit. ( $!#&^$#!!!)
(Its fine, no injury)
Now she's much more, "don't touch me! "
*argh*
So i put her in halter and fed her tied , which i have done, but not every time.
Then took her out to the yard for some grass. Both as an apology and a lesson.
It worked until it was time to go back in. I had to drag her back through the gate. Ruining the positive lesson I'd just accomplished.
-fast forward to last night.
She's much more respectful of the stick.
Still acting like I'm just the biggest bully ever and she's not gonna be my friend.
But put feed down and she doesn't care who she's gotta run over to get it.
I'm at a loss here. I think i need to work with just her by herself maybe? Then hopefully she'll mind her manners when she's with the group?
I also don't like to do training when it's super HOT, so it has been intermittent, and slow.
Any tips or tricks would be appreciated!
