Sasha went down yesterday and we were able to get her up with a hip lift and tractor. The vet gave her CMPK and a shot of some vitamins and minerals - forget the name.
I checked on her at 2:00 a.m., and she was laying down next to the cow ring with the other cows. But this morning she never got up when the others did.
We lifted her again about an hour ago and she was harder to get up - didn't have the strength in the front legs as she did yesterday.
She walked around a little, and we unhooked the other cows and drove the tractor away, cleaned up somethings. Next thing we know she's laying down in an area that is very small and the tractor most likely won't fit (a fenced-in area next to barn).
One vet told me she probably has worms and to worm her (three days ago) but my other vet (a friend down the road) I believe thinks it's milk fever, because she brought CMPK and propylene glycol. She told us to give her propylene four times today.
She's coming back again to do an IV of calcium. How do I know if it's worms or milk fever? Her ears are not cold.
And, she's due today or tomorrow - calf is in the birth canal but no water broke as far as I know - so... do we induce labor again? I think she got a shot of dex yesterday, which my vet friend said would induce labor.
The vet that said it's most likely worms (we've had a very wet winter in Louisiana and she's seen it a lot) said once she calves, the "biggest parasite" will be gone and she'll be better.
How do I know which she has? I think I'll have my friend check if the calf is still alive. I'm thinking not since she's been down so much.
