Okay, I gotta do something different because my cows are just making me Soooo bad. Those little pricks keep getting out. I don't know how, sometimes it my kids screwing around in the barn and they open the darn gate but most of the other times they just get thru the electric fence!! I have 4 strands of smooth wire. Electric. And it's HOT. Trust me, I thought I had turned it off the other day and I tried going over it and it got me... Ouch!!! We live on a busy highway and I'm very scared they will get hit, or worse yet, they'll get hit and will kill someone in the process. 😥
So I was thinking of doing High tensile electric wire all the way around as a perimeter fence. And then just making my small sections with smooth wire. I don't care if they get out between those, as long as our perimeter is good. I haven't read a whole lot about high tensile. But my understanding is it's better than smooth wire and will keep them contained better?? Hubby makes good fence, I'm sure he can make good solid corner posts to run everything tightly.
I know once they got out because the bottom wire was shorted out by flooding this spring. That was understandable, there was no electric. Another time, a large branch fell on the part by the woods and they just walked right over. But the other 4 times this summer I don't know how they are getting out. I don't find the fence down anywhere.
Suggestions?? It's really starting to weigh on my mind after I heard on the radio a lady was killed last year after she hit a guy's cow. Her surviving child sued the guy and basically got everything he had. A tragedy all around, obviously more for the child that lost her mom but also the farmers life was likely put in ruins also over a cow...
Thanks for any help/suggestions.
