Howdy,
There are many threads on this forum about ideal milking parlor and pics of members milk areas. I also have scoured the internet searching for plans and pics, but I can't seem to find an answer....
I'm planning to build my third milking parlor. First, I milked in a barn overhang with a mobile stanchion. Then I built an overhang on the other side of that same barn specifically for milking. It has a 12 x 14 box stall next to a 12 x 14 milking room which includes a stanchion and a sink.... Dirt floors. This barn is falling over and its time to tear it down and finally build my dream milking area.
It will be on a slab and will have a large, drywalled room only for dairy... Cleaning buckets, cooling milk, separating cream, storing all the odds and ends that comes with having dairy cows. I plan on having a milking room and at least one separate box stall so here is my question....
I am unable to find any information or plans for my scale of milking. I either see one animal stanchions on dirt or 800 animals with rotating robotic milkers. What happened to the 5 Cow parlors? What I'm really asking is for those of us with multiple animals and animals in different stages of production (with or without calf) what have you found to be the best plan for milking? A single stanchion with a holding area? Let em all in to tie and feed while you milk one at a time? Should the box stalls be attached to the milking area?
Also, if I am machine milking (which I currently am not), do I want 2 heads or 1? I'm trying to plan a parlor that can do anything I want in the foreseeable future... An impossible goal I know but advice would be most appreciated. Perhaps I'm not seeing something.
