Supposedly according to the guy we bought Rosie from she is now 12 months old. I've been measuring her since I got the weight tape in November I've been measuring her so I can keep track of progress. She doesn't seem to be growing at all now!
She did gain weight from November to January but has not gained weight from January to today (March 4th). Her body condition hasn't changed and she has been having regular heats.
When we bought her in September the guy said she was 6 months old and we noticed her in heat for the first time in November. So that would have put her in heat for the first time at 8 months old according to her age being 6 months old when we bought her.
Since November she has been measuring in the age range for a 9 to 10 month old full size standard jersey. She weighs (according to the tape) about 385 and is 42 inches tall.
Could she be a mid size jersey? I would surely think she would weigh more than this or at least have some kind weight progression over the last few months if she was a standard size Jersey.
We know nothing about her background at all and we don't trust much of what the guy told us about her. But we do know she is not a Free Martin. We did that blood test months ago.
Is there some kind of genetic blood test we can do to determine if she is a standard or mid size Jersey? Should I even bother with the blood test if there is one and just see how she starts growing when everything greens up and blooms again?
She is eating about 4 pounds of grain a day, free choice Tiff 44 hay from first year hay field. Our pasture is turning green and everything is starting to bloom again. She was wormed a few months ago I don't remember the exact date. We do give her probiotics when we feel she needs them. She also has access to a mineral block only because that is what we had to get at the time. We hope to get a guy out here soon and tell us what minerals are best to give based on our pasture condition.
I'm getting frustrated! We had the vet out and he said everything was find but I just don't understand why she isn't gaining/growing if she is a full size Jersey.
