Hi all, I'm back, hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year! I have been waiting as my dad had promised to help me draw up a dairy barn plan that we could submit for our grade A certification, but, hectic as the holidays always are, it never happened. I've sat down several times trying to make slight modifications to a drawing found in a book recommended to me but am never happy with the result and I don't even come close to feeling like it would pass approval. (Small dairy book by Gianclis Caldwell) Partly because the dept of agriculture website is so vague where the requirements are listed. Does anyone know of someone who specializes in this sort of thing? I'm at the point that I'd be happy to look at paying someone to save my sanity and get a move on this. For anyone who cares to look, this is the link to the NMDA website that outlines what must be included in the DRAWING. www.nmda.nmsu.edu/dairy/dairy-facility-permit/
However, I can't find any rules or regs on other things such as regulations on bottling, what cleaners are acceptable, etc. I have contacted the dairy director and he did email me a few examples of very basic barn plans but none of them are something that would work for what I'm wanting. He said he couldn't recommend anyone to contact about doing it for me. He did say that I would have to have bottling/capping equipt. and that a bulk tank, restroom or pipe milking system was not required but didn't say anything regarding other regulations. We have talked a lot about pursuing our grade A permit and are still needing to look into the insurance aspect, funding, costs, etc but I cannot do any of that until we at least have approval on what our building plans are. I figure it's easier to build it meeting standard now rather than deciding 5 years down the road that we want to get our grade A and have to spend much more money in the long run on upgrades or renovations for our barn to meet standards for approval.
Any help/advice/pointing me in the direction of someone who knows what they are doing is appreciated. Thanks much!
