So is that even possible that my cow is holding up milk only on the front quarters but not on the back ones?
Her front quarters are usually more "full/meaty" when I get done milking her. Her back quarters milk out excellent and are nice and soft & completely milked out when I'm done milking. Her front ones, usually seem fuller yet. Not full to the naked eye, but when I'm done milking, they always are a bit "meatier" yet if that makes sense. the Left front in particular. And that's the quarter the calf rarely if ever nurses off of. I know from my profession (milking cows) that some cows just do have meatier udders than others but generally its the entire udder, not just 1 or 2 quarters.
I let the calf on full-time and she nurses 2 or 3 quarters keeping them pretty empty thru out the day and then I milk her once a day in the evening. The front left that seems fuller always even after milking does have some small cut/abrasions Ive been trying to get to heal up. They finally look like they are healing nicely last night when I milked her.
Question #1- Can she really hold up milk in only 1 or 2 quarters only or is there something else going on with that quarter....like Mastitis.
Question #2- She's had a really high SCC when I tested it. (550,000) But that was only 2 wks after freshening also when I tested. I'm testing it again tomorrow. (6-7wks fresh now) No chunks, no off-flavor, no off color, quarter is never HARD, just seems more meaty or like it doesn't get milked out all the way... could that be contributing to the high SCC??
I'm praying her SCC has gone down cuz Its really sucking dumping all that yummy milk on my garden & compost pile. However my chickens are in love with me right now because they get to share in the bounty but id love for my family to drink it not my chickens!!!
