I was looking over some Goat adds and found a dairy farm back where I just moved from that is selling a small number bottle fed Doeling/bucklings from CAE and CL free does. Registered and non registered Nubians, alpine and Saanen goats.
I read the add out to Dh and he said find out more He thinks we should secure a couple CLEAN unrelated Doelings to raise as well as any Doelings we may get from the kids coming just in case we only get a 1 or no doe's out these girls.
So I called and was asked if I knew how to bottle feed? I briefly explained we had just found out the bred does we bought have CL and we are going to bottle the babies so no I don't have experience but I will.
The first thing she said was "are you going to cull (destroy) the mothers" I said yes.
She said good and explained how they had a heck of a time finding clean goats when they started their Dairy farm.
I know this sounds silly but I thought maybe just maybe these folks might be the kind of people who might indeed have clean goats and cull when needed!?!?
Anyways she went on to say that thier milk is sold for cheese and it is important in having clean goats
she said she had a Nubian buck for sale but then said oh wait that won't work because the doelings I want to buy were bred by him. Again I thought oh maybe just maybe she is really someone who cares about genetics and inbreeding?!?!
Anyway This looks hopful she has some Saanen Alpine cross bucks has far sale.
My question is if I have 2 pure Nubians doe and (possably 1 to 4 doe Nubians/lamancha) Would a non Nubian buck bring down the butterfat in a pure bred Nubian or nubian cross doe's off spring?
Would it be better to find a Nubian buck if I am breeding for butterfat content?
She suggested I look over the goats in case I like something different. She has Saanen, Alpine and Nubians plus all thier crosses.
Is udder attachment something I can see on a doeling? Is there anything else I should be learning about in determining a good Doeling for milking. I would be able to see thier mother's.
I will get something in writing this time!
ALL advice is welcome!
ETA: I just looked up in the BCGA breeders and they are listed. I am not sure if it a good or bad thing. I have ZERO faith in that organization now.
