Hi everyone! My lovely Bella has done it again and is giving my a headache.
Three days ago (11/18) went off grain and milk production was down slightly. Figured it was all the cold we're getting so I let her be. That night still a little off, I mixed a little of the calf feed in with it to tempt her. No attitude change, no temp, nothing. Next morning (11/19) she was a little more quiet than normal, and had not touched her feed, but ate all her hay and alfalfa like she would usually. Milk production was about 2/3 normal, temp was fine.
By that night had eaten no grain at all, not touching anything...barely drank any water. She had also bloated/puffed up slightly...her stomach was gurgling, no pain and walked around fine, still pooping/peeing just fine. As all she had been doing was eating hay we took it as a stuffed rumen, took away alfalfa and decided to wait til morning.
(11/20) bloat was gone, still not eating, milk production was halved. Spoke with vet, gave us yeast and bicarbonate boluses to break up and try, I gave free choice baking soda first to tempt her. Nothing...that night she was the same.
This morning (11/21) milk production was less than a gallon, didn't touch anything, right side a little full, left was full and could barely see the hip pin...Vet came out 8:45, gave probiotics, bicarbonate and yeast boluses, and tubed her a bit to relieve some of the pressure. Says its possible she has an ulcer...Also told us to get her off her high energy diet...switch to roughage and low energy feed for her not milk. She now has a scoop of whole corn in her feeder, free choice baking soda, and just hay and full water...
Through out all of this she's had a normal temperature. And she's bred!! At least we're pretty sure, she's about 30 days out from AI breeding.
Grain ration before this was ground corn, soybean, and DDG, with minerals...Wondering if there's anything else I should do...have B vitamin to give if needs...
