I have a question. It's been five days since I finished the 8-day treatment on Bandit for Staph A (Pirsue/DMSO), and her milk is still sweet in all quarters. If it's going to come back, when might that happen? Or could it be any time? I'm hoping that between the Pirsue/DMSO and then two rounds of oxytet, that it's been well and truly kicked out.
The reason I'm asking is that I would LIKE to be able to turn Bandit and Oggie out to the pasture once Helen calves. Cricket picks on Helen whenever there's food to be had (although they spend time near each other cudding during the day), and I'd like to put Helen and her calf in the pen for at least a few days after she calves, so they can bond without interference, which will mean Bandit & Oggie will be "homeless." I've been tasting Bandit's milk every morning and evening, and it's just as sweet as it can be, so I'm hoping that I could put her, Oggie, and Cricket together. Oggie might try to nurse off Cricket, and she MIGHT let him, so I've been keeping them separated until I can get the mastitis sorted out.
It's possible to put Bandit & Oggie over with the horses, but it would be a giant pain in my behind, so I'm hoping I can keep everyone on the cow side, and just isolate Helen and her baby until her baby finds its feet and can make it out in the big pasture. I could also put Bandit and Helen and their two calves in the pen, I guess, but it's not that big a pen. I know Bandit won't let another calf nurse her, but I don't know about Helen yet...
What do you guys think? (I need more pens and a bigger barn, right? )
