HI EVeryone,
Mocha has calved, ;D finally. Been watching her for a few days now and figured whe go in the next week or so. Well went out to water the garden and she was in the far corner of her pasture, and she kept getting up and down, turning around in circles. So I finally decided I had better go check on her. She had already had him and was licking him off while he was getting some breakfast. Probably had him about 7 this morning I am guessing. Took a bucket of Alfalfa pellets out with me to see if I could intice her into the corral. She was interested but not enough to come get them. To worried about the baby. I was finally able to walk up to her and hand feed them to her for awhile, letting her get used to me near her baby. I was finally able to get a hand on the little thing and sort of pushed him along while I held the bucket for her to eat out of while we walked backwards toward the corral.( My husband Chose this morning to leave for all day.) So I had to bring them in by myself. Finally I just picked up the the little guy and carried him, keeping him between Mocha and me so that she could smell and lick him. Finally made it to the corral.
I gave her a huge tub of water, and then got some molasses and epsom salts to put in the water. All I had for molasses was some cooking molasses we had on hand to make cookies, will this work?
Mocha is fine walking around no sign of milk fever yet.
I did notice that one back teat and quarter don't look as full as the others. It is small and wrinkled, I don't know if this is because maybe the calf drank it all down, or if it never filled up and I am going to end up with a dead quarter and only three good ones. I will try and post a pic for you. Is there anything I can do to make it start working.
So now what do I do? When should I start milking her? We want to share milk with that baby so that we can leave on vacation and have him do the milking. Will this work?
How much milk should I take the first time? All/ Part?
Sorry for all the questions. But thanks for the answers
