Hi folks,
I am still working on getting this new cow that I told you about. Well we had an appoint. yesterday to see them and watch them being milked at 8:00pm after we got done working. Well we showed up and now one was there, we did look at the cows though since we had driven all that way.
They are very young cows a couple heifers and mostly 3 & 4 yr olds. Supposedly well bred Jersey. She won't let me have any of the bred ones because she want's to calve them out first and then if they have heifers keep the heifers and then she might be willing to sell the cow. Three of them are milking. She is selling two. The 3 & 4 yr old. THese cows were out of water when we showed up. They are one pasture, but they looked really skinny to me hip bones showing some ribs back bone. A few have really long toes, that I imagine I will have to have the vet trim. She says they are milking 2.5 gal each milking. But their bags look really small to me. She was late milking last night and they weren't hardly bagged up at all.? She is asking $2500 -$3000 dollars for these cows. She hauled them all the way from ORegon. So she has got some cost involved there.
My question is: is this too high a price for these type of cows? If I do buy one can I get some weight back on her? What would be a reasonable price? I don't mind paying that kind of money if what I am getting is really nice but these didn't look like they were worth $3000 dollars
We are going to go look at them Wednessday night again, watch milk ect. Will be leaving in the morning though to shoe hroses any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
