Seems like I remember someone saying that they either had cows bred with, or had purchased semen from Munifordia's Gamboge, one of the Old World bulls being offered by a couple of the Mini Jersey breeders.
He should be a real good bull. And you might be interested in what I found out in a new (old) book that I recently got off of ebay -- The Book of The Jersey -- L. Gordon Tubbs, 1947.
The book goes in depth into the pedigrees of some the greatest Jersey families to ever live.
There are 3 cows that stand out in Jersey history for their supreme influence. Those 3 cows were "Sultane (7)", "Coomassie", and "Oxford Lass".
Munifordia's Gamboge is a member of the "Sybil" family, which is a direct offshoot of the Majesty/Oxford family, he's a direct descent of Oxford Lass, she's 11 generations behind him.
His dam is Munifordia's Oxfordia 4th, her dam was Munfordia's Oxfordia 2nd. Munifordia's Oxfordia 2nd was out of Munifordia's Oxfordia, by Sybil's Little Prince, both of whom were sired by Sybil's Oxfordia's Lad, a son of Sybil's Oxfordia.
Sybil's Oxfordia was a daughter of Sybil's Gamboge, who was sired by Gamboge's Royal Majesty, a son of Oxford Majesty. Oxford Majesty was sired by Majesty, founder of the Majesty family, and son of Oxford Lad. Oxford Lad was out of Oxford Lass, by Flying Fox.
These animals were not only show-stoppers, they had awesome production too, and members of this family were selling for over $20,000 in the 1920's!!!
Boy, some of these old books are interesting!
At that time, inbreeding/linebreeding was the norm and considered the best way to get and keep desirable traits. There are 8 slots for great-great-grand sires on any particular pedigree, Oxford Lad appears in 7 of those 8 slots in Sybil's Gamboge's pedigree.
