I'm starting to wonder if it's just this cow's temperament, is she just an unpredictable cow?
I've had Lovebug since the end of September. First two weeks perfect. Then she went nuts. I had an earlier thread about this. I chalked it up to new cow, testing limits, husband milked her for the first time, change in routine etc etc.
After two more very hard, unpredictable weeks she settled back down. Things were pretty much good. Although I caught myself being "flinchy" more than usual working around her. She would be kind of jumpy...flinch a bit and I was pretty shell shocked from taking the brunt of it. But it was workable and seemed to be better.
Then a couple of weeks later- Bam! crazy cow trying to kick my head in. Again, no reason that I could determine. Then she's settle back down again.
Today, I was prepping her udder and she hauled off and kicked me right in my chest. My arm deflected some of the kick and my body was at an angle. But I had a hoof print smack dab in the middle of my chest. I could have been seriously hurt. No warning, nothing was different. Then she kept trying to kick me as I finished prepping. I was so scared...but managed to get the machine on and once it was on she was fine.
She does not have mastitis, nothing that would make me think she was in pain. My husband wants me to put her in the freezer and I'm inclined to do that as well.
Is she just a "bad" cow? I've had her for over two months. Every time I think she's settled down she turns around and does something like this. I can't pet her, I'm constantly walking on egg shells around her. I don't need her to be my best friend. Just safe and predictable.
I'd never sell her to anyone else after my experience with her. It's so disappointing.
