Our best doe is down with ketosis and I assume milk fever as well. She is a big boer doe, not fat, just good size. We messed up on her due date by a week. Ugg, I can not believe we did that. Anyway, we thought she was due next week, so anytime as they can go a week early. We miss read her signs as signs she was getting close to kidding. Last night though I noticed she had a really hard time getting up that is when I finally clued in that something else was going on. So mad we did not catch this sooner. Well i guess no help focusing on that. Now to try and get her better. We dosed her at midnight with CMPK and propylene glycol, 50 cc each. Vit B injection, 6cc and some warm water and so e paste we have for energy and stimulating appetite. Then again at 5am, excepted used MFO solution instead of CMPK and uped dosage of that and th PG to 80cc and did not give another Vit B injection then. Also dosed with an electrolyte mix Instead of just water this time. She is wanting to eat some, but not much, just nibbling. She will get up when we force her to, but it is really hard. Ketone strip shows very hight ketones. Was down just a tad at 5am, but not much. Heading out now, it is almost 10am here to dose again. Plan on giving her PG every couple hours until we see her ketone levels down.
Sunday, so to have a vet out would be crazy expensive. If she gets worse then we will call one out, but really hoping we can get her turns around a bit. I have calcium gul injectable on hand, but no CMPK injectable. Not sure on howntomdose the calcium or if I should even. I also have dextrose on hand but have not used tha either. Not sure how to dose that to her. I thought I had read somewhere to NOT use dextrose sub q. Does anyone know?
If you guys have any other suggestions to add to what we are doing that would be great. Why is it usually your best animals? . Wondering if she is carrying quads in there.
Also, how early can one induce labor and still save the kids? I am thinking 2 weeks is to early. Plus not sure she could handle labor right now. If we have to lose the kids to save her we will, but we were looking so forward to this breeding and the resulting kids.
