Okie dokie. SO tuppyandjess was super lovely and sent me some kefir stuff.
1) the post guys took a day longer than it should have and 2) it kind of exploded in the container 3) I live in QLD and we are having 36* days here at the moment (95-97F)
so, when it arrived, i opened it, and gave it some room temp milk. please bear in mind Anna is dry, so the milk is pasteurised but not homogenised.
i've been draining off what i'm going to call "clear fluid" and giving it more milk, for the last few days since it arrived on friday, hoping i could nurse it back to health. i'm not surei'm doing this right, as i've not been straining or rinseing, as i'm unsure what to keep.
(i'm a kefir virgin!!!) and i can't find comprehensive pics...
i've fed ginger bugs and apple bugs (i make great ginger beer, lager, cider and ACV) and this is so new to me
i am really unsure if it is meant to look like this, or if it is just what pasteurised milk looks like when it goes rancid.
the smell of it is not awful, like dead things or what i'd imagine past. milk to go like, so i'm not really sure. it's only touched glass, no metal or anything since it got here. the milk i'm feeding it is bought in a plastic jug.
i'm not game taste it yet incase i poison myself and can't work for a week O.o
so here are pics. i have both stirred it up by swilling the jar around, and then let it settle. there are pics with and without the flash.
to me it looks like curds and whey... i'm just so new at this. is the clear stuff what i'm supposed to be drinking?
please tell me if i'm flogging a dead horse, or if there is still some life in the little guy yet?
