I was looking around on Petfinder this morning and found a cute Dobergirl at a shelter just outside of Bismarck, ND. It's a four hour drive each way for us, but I talked to Rich yesterday and flat out told him I needed another Dobie (his response was, "DUH! Tell me something I don't already know") and he said he'd be willing to drive a fair piece for the right dog.
I tried to call them to get more info on her but they're closed Sunday and Monday, so it will have to wait for tomorrow. The only problems I can see is that she's female (not sure how two young active females will get along together in the house) and she's deaf. The listing said she knows some hand signals, so as long as she's LOOKING at me, her hearing loss shouldn't prove difficult. What might be difficult is getting her attention.
Then I had a Brilliant Idea. Missy needs a job REAL BAD, so why couldn't I teach Missy to "fetch" Kinsey? I could, and it wouldn't be that hard. And it would be SO nice to have an energetic young playmate for Missy. Cody was too old and slow, and now she has nobody to play with, except when I let the Pyrs in the yard with her every morning for their morning ritual, but they're much too adult and dignified to stoop to Missy's level of silliness. So she gets to socialize with them for 10 or 15 minutes every day, but she needs a compadre in crime, who'll roll and tussle and play with her. Try as she might, she can't get the Pyrs to roll in the dirt with her.
I pretty much have Missy convinced she's NOT the boss of the house now, so as long as the Dobergirl isn't overly dominant, maybe it would work.
THEN there's the issue of Rich's knee. He just went in this morning for his surgery and will be gone until Thursday, then on the couch doped up on pain meds for another week or two. I seriously don't think we'll be driving anywhere for a month. BUT, if this is meant to be, Kinsey will still be there in a month, won't she?
She's very cute - here's her listing. Look at that happy face and crazy floppy ears!

I just have to find out if she gets along with cats.
