I am very upset.
here's the story:
My cow, Rosie, calved 13 days ago..everything went superb.
I milked her 2x per day for the first 10 days(with calf still on her)
then switched to OAD milking, locking the calf up at night and milking in the morning. Then they are together all day.
Everything went great until this morning.
When I was milking her out I noticed that one of her hind quarters was a little stiff and she was very touchy about me milking it. She would kick at me too.
but I finished her up, knowing that it was mastitis.
So I call the vet.
He shows up a few hours later and looks at her.
She has a very very light case of mastitis in 1 quarter ( I caught it quick )
Not too big of a deal, right?
WRONG!
The vet goes to his truck and gets the shot for her mastitis.
But when he gets back , Rosie goes to the bathroom all over the place(nervous thing- poor dear )
He just stared at the floor and said "oh, no"
I'm like, what now!
He said that she MIGHT have this disease ( don't remember the name) of where she will just poop herself to death!
She has VERY VERY VERY runny(like water) poop.
I thought it was just because of all the lush green grass but I guess not.
So the vet did NOT give her the shot. Instead he took a sample of her manure and is going to send it to some lab and they are gonna examine it and see if it's ______ disease.
He didn't give her the shot, because it if IS this disease, she should be sent to slaughter. And prob. her calf too.
DOES ANYONE know what on earth is going on here?
The vet is going to get back to me when the results come in ( a whole week of waiting! )
sorry this is so stinkin' long but I just had to get it out.
