First off I don't need any statistics or horrifying numbers regarding unwanted animals, trust me I know them all. The last 3 times I've taken animals to the vet to get fixed they always end up pregnant so I was waiting until I could get them to a vet in San Antonio who'd actually 'fix' them.
Tubby (her actual name thanks to dd) is pregnant. I kept our male separate for over a month & watched like a hawk for a couple weeks after when I noticed her in heat but I guess the neighbor's dog got her. He told me he had his dog penned up but I did see him (the dog) high-tailing it back to his place 1 day. (Can't for the life of me remember when that was though) Anyways, I tried & failed so I'm moving on & will do better next time. They're both pure Blue Heelers & excellent examples of the breed so it's not like they'll be straight up mutts w/potential genetic issues.
So now (sorry I ramble I know) my question is there any way to know approximately how far along she is? I didn't write down her heat b/c I kept such a close eye on Deuce & never thought she'd end up pregnant. She's getting rounder & her nipples are pretty fat. She's still got a ways to go milk bar development wise. She's hungry aalllll the time & super lovey & affectionate. I keep tripping over her b/c she's always touching me. I laid my hand on her belly & could feel flip-flopping like they were squirming but not actually kicking like a pregnant human. I can take her to the vet for a scan but figured if nothing's wrong what's the point. The actual delivery doesn't scare me I just want to make sure she's got everything she needs prior.
What should I be looking for? She's current on shots & doesn't appear to have worms. Do I need to do anything for Tubby? Also, should I let her eat as much as she wants or limit her? Do I switch from a high energy sports dog food (Diamond brand) to puppy food or something or leave her alone?
