I have been trying to research this problem and haven't been able to find any answers, so though I'd ask ya'll. I'd appreciate any ideas, suggestions, etc.
I have a Boer buck that was 2 years old in June. We have 13 Boer does that we bred to him last year with no problems. Last week a few of our girls starting coming in to heat. Friday we put Patty in his pen for him to breed. Exactly as we did it last year.
He was all over her, making his usual noises, bumping, licking and loving on her and then mounting. He mounted her several times and couldn't get the job completed in his normal manner, although she was in standing heat. We took her out and tried again a few hours later. He was able to get the job completed twice.
Fast forward to Sunday, different doe, same process. Put her in his pen to breed. He did his lover boy thing and mounted her several times - unable to get the job completed. She was getting upset with him so we took her out and tried again later that day. He never did get her bred.
Now I'm wondering what's going on. Is he going to be able to get the does bred this year?
Last year he was a youngster and was very excited and the "process" was quickly over with. He is bigger this year, has more length and weight but he's certainly not over weight. He's been wormed when needed, has his feet trimmed regularly, has free choice loose minerals and baking soda in his pen. He eats a mix of 14% goat pellets and a little corn, plus bermuda grass hay. He has fresh water at all times. He looks and acts healthy and normal.
Is it possible that he is simply too excited and wearing himself out before he gets anything done? Has anyone had a problem like this or can offer any advise? We are out of ideas of what to do here
