Ok, so I don't know if she's still technically a "kitten", but she's definately under a year old. I'd guess maybe even closer to 9 months? She's still much smaller than my (small) full grown cat. Anyway, we got her (Prissy) about 2 months ago from some friends who had found her in a tree. She is the sweetest kitty EVER. My three year old daughter who is afraid of almost all other animals swings this cat over her shoulder and will play with her all day.
Pretty soon after we got her, we noticed a big black feral cat hanging around. He was elusive, but eventually my DH trapped him and, um, took care of him. Apparently the "damage" had already been done, because just last week I noticed Prissy's belly is swollen and she's got little teats popping out.
I took her the vet for shots on Monday . . . . and to confirm what I already thought was true. He said she looks pregnant to him, but that he wouldn't worry about it, thought she'd be fine.
So, two questions . . . 1) Anybody ever had a really young cat have kittens and did it go okay? and 2) I"m worried about my other cat harming the kittens. We got this newer cat in part to keep our other cat company (I know, I know, cats are like that!! But we had a rabbit that was the cat's best friend for a long time, so I was hoping she was different0. Anyway, the two cats frequently fight. Do you think the other (older) cat would harm the new kittens? I guess I plan to move them to the back porch with their Mama after they're born, but what if the other cat gets to them first>? She really is a great mouser.
