Posted Apr 14th-
"Actually, since I have been milking Honey, I can now tell what the teats should feel like...and Jezzies weren't normal, almost like they were pumped in something with no pressure relief between (even though I know the pulsator is working and the machine as a whole was working normally at the time) . Honeys are supple after milking, even though they are meatier.
I think the inflations are just too big for Jez, and I'm really hoping to get a whole new claw and inflations/tubing, etc for her when she freshens in July. I don't know her true output either.. so I'm kinda worried I'll be seriously hurting if I had to hand milk her after not handmilking since March."
Update-8/16/2012-So I have used the milker on Jez twice. Once with the narrow bore/jersey inflations and once with the same inflations I used on her in the original post. Still have problems. My pump is set to 12ishpsi. I'm just not sure what is wrong. I'm frusterated that I'm gonna end up hurting Jez and ruining her. She doesn't show any discomfort signs while milking though
Original post- So is there any way to tell if the inflations fit properly, even if the cow shows no signs of discomfort? Another thread recently got me thinkin about it. The instructions that come w/the Perrys bucket milker say 15psi for the vacuum, so thats what mine is set on.
Jez has small dainty teats (long in front short in back) while Perky has meaty beefer type teats. When I took the inflations off Jez the few times I machine milked her, her teats felt odd. Not as supple or smushy, but rather dense and tough. I hope that came across right. Anyway, she didn't fuss, show signs she was in pain, not even a shuffle or twitch of the tail. Perky neither, so I figured all was fine.
