So, my cow's production is WAY down. I'm only getting maybe half a gallon a day now... When I brought her home in August I was getting almost two gallons a day, then we sent her to the bull's house with the calf for a month and then weaned the calf after they got home and it was down for a week at about half a gallon and then it "picked up" to about 3/4 of a gallon a day... THEN she came into heat and I had to send her back to the bull's house 45 minutes from here for two nights... (This is probably a huge part of it) I could only get out there for two milkings before I brought her home, but she'd only give me the normal half gallon and nothing more. Once I brought her home, she gave a little more for two days or so and now it's hovering at half a gallon a day. She's decided to become picky in the stanchion with the grain and wants out really quickly, which is totally opposite of what she was like just a week ago.
Since she went to the bull's house and was around cows again, will her production drop until she's settled at home again? Or is it that I'm not her calf and she's dropping in production because of it.... We use a gallon a day just for regular usage, she's giving hardly anything.
I made her stand with me tonight until she stood quietly with no blowing or tail swishing, cause she does that to me often when she doesn't want to be somewhere.. I scolded her when she tried to throw her head around and blow, was that the right thing to do? Are my milking days already down the crapper without even knowing if she's bred again?
