I put an add out on our local Craigslist for a family milk cow. Today I got a response and was wondering what you all thought. Would this be a good thing for us? Is it a worry that she hasn't been bred yet? Will this make it harder to breed her again or is it not a big deal? What about the only 3 working quarters? I'm not worried about that really, but wondering if there IS something that should worry me about it? We are not looking for a HUGE producer either, so 2 gallons a day sounds good.
I sent her an e-mail asking some more questions but am waiting to hear back from her about them.
Hi,
I was wondering if you were still looking for a milk cow? I have a 4 year old, registered Guernsey cow that is currently in milk that I'm going to be selling. She is 10 months fresh and currently giving us 2 gallons a day out of 3 quarters. She had 4 working quarters when she calved at Christmas (a healthy bull calf, and calved with no issues), but when we weaned her calf a month ago and began milking her I found that now only 3 quarters are working. She is healthy, vaccinated, does not have horns, and is currently open (only because we couldn't decide who to breed to her to) and cycling and ready to be bred again. She's not exactly halter broke (she leads ok), but we don't need her to be halter broke because we will just open her stall door and she walks into her stanchion for milking, and then she walks back into her stall again afterward. She's tested A2/A2 through UC Davis so if you're interested in A2 milk at all she's got that. We are asking $1000 OBO for her, and we are located near ****. Let me know if you are interested!
Thanks,
