I'm at my wits end with Jasper. For the time being, he and Kiara have found some way out of the fence (we can't find it) and they've been "roaming." They come back, but they're gone more than they're home lately, and I've made NO further progress on getting Jasper comfortable with people. The problem is only getting worse now that he's learning how to be A Wild Dog.
When they come back tonight or tomorrow morning, I'm going to put Kiara in the pen, much as I hate to do it, but at least when she's penned up, Jasper stays home, but I have GOT to get him to the vet for neutering, and plus I'd like to put him in the pen so I can start working with him and begin his training. Since they've evidently found some hunter's "missed" antelope, they're not even hungry when they DO come home. I suppose the antelope will only last so long, but rifle season is coming up next week and there'll be more, I'm sure.
So what I'm looking for is a sedative that I can give him in something (maybe a hot dog?) by mouth that will at least make him groggy enough that I can catch him and get him in the car. Pyrs are sensitive (or so I've heard) to sedatives, and can't be dosed the same as other breeds, and my vet knows nothing of this. I've told her to read up on it (PLEASE!), but in the meantime, if anyone is better at Googling than I am - and that would probably be EVERYONE - I could sure use some help finding the name of something that I could suggest to my vet. I have to ask her for something when she comes back from vacation next week, but I don't want her just blithely sending me something that will kill him if the dose is too high.
Can anyone help me? If you know of something already, or you have a vet that knows, or you're just better at searching the internet than I obviously am? Good grief, I don't know why I seem to have such a problem. Maybe it's because I'm OLDT.
