Hi there,
I bought a Jersey calf about 2 weeks ago. She was born June 24. She was getting Jersey milk at that farm but I had to switch her to 20/20 replacer. I was told to give her 3 pints, 2x a day. She took to the bottle well and we sorted out the bunting (when she pushes me I push her straight back), She had never had grain and I started to give her a minor handful of Startena about 2 days after I got her. After a few days, she started a bit of scours so on the recommendation of the feedshop guy, I gave her 2 pints, 3x a day. I had to call my vet for disbudding info and she said that the scours could have also been from the fresh clippings I had ignorantly put in the pen with her. She said to give dry hay only. Okay, so fast forward to today ... a few days ago I raised her to 2.5 pints, 3 times a day because she seems to be growing and was getting extra thin. I give her Startena in a bowl every day and it is just a handful. She eats it sometimes and plays with it at others. I have dried clippings/hay. She seems to have normal poos. This morning, I emailed the woman I got the calf from to update her and she said no way to give her 3 feedings a day but to give 2 feedings of 3 pints each time. This does NOT seem like enough at all to me. Also, she said NO grain whatsoever and only fresh grass,
What on earth do I do?
Can someone outline a feeding guide based on age and amount? Ex. at 2 months old, she gets 2 feedings of x pints per day? I know there is something on the 20/20 but I found it confusing.
Thank you.
