And he brought his girlfriend and her 4 month old daughter with him!! ;D ;D ;D
Meet my two new girls, Daisy the Dexter and her daughter Sweet Pea, the Dexter/Jersey!! Sweet Pea is half-sister to LeBeouf (Bonnie's 2 week old steer) and he's nearly as big as she is.
Gratuitous Cody picture.
This is Daisy and she isseverely malnourished vitamin and mineral deficient. She is putting on weight but still has a long way to go and, as you can see, she still hasn't shed her winter coat. I have loose minerals and kelp out all the time so I'm expecting to go through it fast as soon as she finds it.
Sweet Pea, who is the same portion Jersey that LeBeouf is. She's got the cutest little udder and I have really high hopes for her future as a family milker.
Daisy's udder is really nice. Her teats are a lot bigger since she freshened and I might be able to milk without too much trouble. Oh yeah, she's going into the milking string as soon as possible. Right now she's staying in the corral because Cody thinks she's going into heat and I want her bred by him. I'm bringing the Highland from last year back at the end of August to breed Bonnie and pregnancy test/settle Daisy.
I'm a little apprehensive about Daisy's horns but she is very mild mannered and much smaller than Bonnie. If there's an issue then she gets to wear Kongs. I'm hoping that both will be so excited to finally have a herd that they will settle the pecking order quickly and without bloodshed. Sweet Pea is polled so Daisy's the only girl with horns.
I'm terrified but at the same time soooo excited to not only have my full herd, but LeBeouf will have a calf to play with and they will have mommies to watch over them and my Bonnie will have a cow that she can be a cow with. I guess I'm just glad that my herd animals finally have a herd.
