Those of you who have been following my threads know that I have been very dismayed because I bought a cow that I was told produces 7 gallons is only producing about 1 1/2, one gallon of which is all I get after separating calf from cow for 12 hours. So, the seller, finally calls me back today and the 'I'll have to make it right' has changed to 'let's see if I can find a way to blame you or the cow.' Here is what he said, 1st-this is happening because the cow wasn't milked until about 36 hours after she calved-but the other cow my DH's cousin bought wasn't milked until about 3 or 4 days later, DOESN'T eat grain and is still feeding three calves and putting out a gallon twice a day so that's not a valid reason.
Next-cow is holding her milk-nope, I milk her with the calf on one quarter while I milk and still no difference.
The cow has a uterine infection-no signs/symptoms of that at all
The stress of moving caused this-nope, the cow has adapted well, she is friendly and used to our new routine, she even leads really well now, when she had never been lead before as I discovered.
He suggested that I have a vet give her a hormone shot so she produces more. HELL NO! And I shouldn't have to do that anyway to get her to produce if she didn't need it before.
I have told him over and over that we can't afford to have a vet come out when there are no signs/symptoms of problems with the cow because we spent all of our money on this poorly producing cow. His talk of making it right has disappeared just like Daisy's milk production.
