Ok, so Eddie, the bull, just isn't doing his job. I was thinking I should draw blood if I could manage to rope and hold onto two crazy heifers, but now, why bother?
In other words, AnnaBelle is in heat again, plain as day. Oh, he's sniffing her and real happy about it. She's not standing for him yet however. He was all over Honey a week or so ago too. I figured he hadn't nailed her yet either, but thought, well, if he's just gotten ONE we know he CAN... this bull is now 14 months old. What the HECK is he waiting for??? He's not going to get a handwritten invitation if that's it! He doesn't even make the most sincere attempts. Just half hearted kinda... "oh, you are moving just a bit while I'm trying? Forget it then!" kinda attempts. GAH!!
We don't own a trailer and the one we used to rent to take the cow to get AI'd is not in good working order any more. It's not like I can just buy another bull, I don't have the money. So now I've got two heifers that are more than old enough and more than willing and a % mini jersey bull that seems to be a "fool" when it comes to breeding.
I also have to say, recently, Mike talked to his chief at work. Mike's up for chief again, so of course, he was interested in what the guy had to say. There's NO LOCAL orders available for a chief. If Mike makes it this time, we may get transferred! The "if's" are HUGE, but still there! "IF" he doesn't make it, then we only have 18 months left in the Navy anyway. We may have to move at that point as well, depending on where Mike finds work. What I'm saying is, I don't know if I have time to raise up another bull, if I found a young one at a decent price. The AI guy WILL NOT come here, my cows are too wild to get that to happen anyway. I was really counting on Eddie being able to do his job by now. I'd hoped that at the very LEAST if we had to move any time, I'd be able to take a heifer with me. I didn't get these girls ear tagged for moving.
I just don't know what to do, maybe there's some solution I'm just overlooking.
