I bought Poppy from Blaire at the beginning of April. Blaire bought her from a dairy, and knew that she had some type of foot problem. I know Blaire did not knowingly sell me an unsound cow. She was under the impression that she was better (she had hairy heelwart), but that is not the case.
Here is the deal:
Poppy limped before she came here, and of course was still limping when I brought her home. The week after I picked her up, I contacted Blaire because she was limping really bad, and was in pain. Blaire sugested I clean/soak her foot, and squirt some LA200 on the "sore". Well, I couldn't see a sore, but I cleaned it and put the AB on it anyways. She seemed to do better in the next few days, but always had the limp. Well, about 2 weeks ago she was laying down, and I decided to get a better look at her foot and see if I could find anything. She had a lot of brittle hoof shell here, and when I picked at it to see if it would come off, a LOT came off. It really scared me! I proceeded to lead her out to an area where I could thouroughly spray her foot, to get it good and clean, and there is a hole in her foot! I mean a big hole! It really scared me alot. I called the vet to see if I could get her in, he was not here, and whoever was covering for him didn't know much, and didn't give me a whole lot of hope either. I am in an area whee beef cows rule, there are NO vets that do dairy cows, or know anything about them. So I began a daily clean/dry/LA200/wrap regimen. She appears at times to get some better, and other times not so much. I would really like to block the unaffected claw to get her weight off of the bad claw (she is putting all her weight on her good claw, and it is starting to wear down), but I would have to do it myself, as I would not have a vet who could/would help. Is that doable? I need some advice from Richard I think.
I am attaching some photos, they aren't that great, as they are from my phone, but you can definately see the problem. Any advice would be appreciated.
