We went and picked up Reba, Tuesday..
we were told she has a little attitude but nothing bad. that she leads and has had a halter on, and that she trailers well..
so we get there they are all locked in the barn and wild eyed.. as soon as the door opened, they all ran to the back of the barn to hide. we had to sneak and corner her to get a halter on her. she wouldnt not lead, the owner was twisting her tail to get her to walk...
we got to the trailer and that also was a no go. he said he uses a large stock trailer not a 2 horse trailer.. we literally dragged her into it. I threw out my back and hip LIFTING her BUTT into the trailer because she laid down and refused to get up. once in she beat the snot out of the already very rusty trailer..
our trip home was uneventful... they guys left the lead line on her in the trailer which somehow her little invisible elves managed to TIE yes TIE around her front foot. I went in and she was calm, tried to untie it and almost got trampled. finally got it undone and went for a short walk. it took some time, with NO tail twisting... she proceeded to the paasture, cornered poor adelle and promptly beat her up (adelle is very pregnant), Porter promptly mounted her and she beat him up, when that happened, clarice, my sweet old 9 yo and mother to Porter, stepped in. I was worried she was gonna get hurt. Luckily Reba didnt challenge Clarice.
Reba will NOT allow us to get near her, and when we DO catch her... she tries to RUN us over. on lead, she drops her head and charges!
She has not had grain, so we are starting her slow but she bullies the others from their grain, and guards the hay.
Lordy what have I done!!! I dont like to use brute force, but today I am taking a shovel handle down with me, to keep from getting charged and run over!!! To top it ALL off.. im not sure she is pregnant!!! I would draw her blood, but as you can see from above, its not gonna be a likely to happen. AND if that is not enough.. she is HUGE.. towers a good 3-4" over clarice. she is built very much like the dutch bred jerseys. I do like this look in fact one of the reasons I bought her. infortunately she is using her size to be a TURD.
I will see if I can get some photos, and see if you all think she is pregnant. for a cow due so soon, Im NOT seeing any calf movement. she COULD be due all the way into August. She is a very Pretty girl, and I pray it all works out, but I will sell her if she continues to be so agressive. We have a 9 yo and he is now afraid to go into the pasture, and I dont blame him.
well time to run have things to do. we are trying to get the Greenhouse ready for the grand opening Saturday.
